The Motor Of Evolution

From time to time the polarity of the earth’s magnetic field reverses, this reversal can take thousands of years to complete. During that time, the earth without a magnetic field is bombarded by high levels of radiation. The most specialised species die out first unable to adapt to the new conditions, however there are less specialised species which have coexisted alongside the specialised yet to evolve to their fullest potential, these then become tomorrow’s new specialised species if you like, as a result of an increase in radiation. Radiation can therefore be seen as The Motor of Evolution, and it is highly unlikely that without this intermittent change to the earth’s equilibrium we would have evolved.

My musical interpretation of this event is portrayed in this composition, where I have attempted to create an image of biological and genetic intermittency. Never let it be said that I'm not a true Romantic and that my perennial struggle to express that through music is ever mitigated. Here is The Motor of Evolution, guaranteed to leave you with a new heightened sense of belonging to the cosmological order and which will fill your heart with love and warmth.
