In this edition of Rock Lick Legends we look at the playing style of Paul Kossoff, guitarist for 1970s band, Free. Kossoff is known for his bluesy style and fast vibrato and in this column we will look at combining that style and technique with mixolydian ideas.

Paul Kossoff used Gibson Les Paul guitars and a 100-watt Marshall Super Lead head with dual 4 X 12” Marshall cabs equipped with bass speakers; an addition Kossoff believed gave a more rounded tone.
