STEVE HOWE - ROCK LICK LEGENDS
In this edition of Rock Lick Legends we look at the Aeolian playing of Steve Howe. Howe was the guitarist for 1970’s prog rock group Yes, and in the 1980’s, co formed Asia, his finger picking technique and speedy single line runs are an integral part of his playing. In the following examples we will examine some of the arpeggio like melodies and runs Howe is renowned for.
Howe predominantly uses a Gibson ES-175; during the early Yes years he played through Fender Dual Showman amps and cabinets loaded with 15" JBL speakers. More recently he has used a 100-watt Marshall bass head through a 2x12 speaker cab and a homemade pedalboard including a MXR 15-band EQ, a Roland flanger, and a Boss chorus.
