String skipping is a technique where you literally skip strings by picking non-adjacent strings. This can be tricky to do at high speed and so I've created a few exercises you can try that facilitate better accuracy and coordination in your picking hand.

Some guitarists prefer to employ the hybrid picking technique which is a combination of pick and fingers. This is a great alternative, and gives you more options for playing lines with large intervallic leaps. While there are arguably economic differences between the two approaches, whichever one you choose will probably come down to simply preference or tone colour.
