SWEEP PICKING

Sweep picking is a great technique for adding excitement to a solo. The technique can be used in different ways: you can sweep downwards or upwards picking one-note per string or you can combine single note per string sweeps integrated with any number of notes per string. Many players use a combination of both sweep and economy picking as well as alternate picking.

The following examples mostly focus on one-note per string sweeps. Easing in with the first example which outlines major 7th arpeggios in a cycle of fourths. In example 2, sweep picking is used to outline the major and minor triads from the major scale and example 3 is made up of major arpeggios moving up and down the fretboard by semitones. Key take away from these examples is the finger rolling technique which is an integral part of sweep picking.
